I love your style & this newsletter.

I also love those High Sport pants, but damn it they are expensive. Are there other alternatives out there?

Hi Martyna, Thank you!

They are expensive! For me, spending more on something I know I will wear for years is worth it- often easier said than done though! The fabric quality on these pants is really unmatched to anything else I have seen. The tight knit creates a perfect flare shape and very flattering fit. The matte finish makes them great for anything from work to evening.

Just checked out the Banana, ALC, and Everlane styles- so glad you mentioned Athalie and Whitnie! All so cute and slightly different from each other- the Everlane look closest in fit and fabric to me. The main difference I'm noticing is the High Sport has a thicker, tighter weave which I think will make their shape stay in tact for longer.

Hope that helps! Would love to hear if you land on any!

Hello Ali, thank you for replying. And thanks for the previous commenters offering alternatives!

I agree that it is always smart to spend more if you expect to wear an item for a long time. That is my policy actually - to buy something, and then wear it for 5 years at least. I believe for pants that's doable.

You mentioned the features of the fabric, and I had a vague imagination that is one of the reasons of the price. From the close-ups, it really does look like a thick, quality fabric that should last. They advertise their clothing does not need to be steamed or ironed which probably also adds up to the price (oh to live without having to iron, I can only dream). And because of high prices, I expect they pay fair wages to the people that make the clothing.

Anyway, I am not going to pay the full price but I'll try to keep an eye, maybe something comes around on Vestiaire. I would be really interested to give a chance to such type of pants.

Two similar-in-concept that I've seen suggested by others are Everlane's dream kick flare pant and Banana Republic's Stretch Ponte Flare

I bought a pair from ALC, that are super similar to High Sport. I'm not sure if they are still making them. I actually like the material better from ALC, but the flare is just so good from High Sport.

Ali, I already love it. I now have to find a way to buy the Le Monde Beryl Suede Mary Jane shoes. They are perfect.

And, this line is one of the best lines ever: "One thing to note! I embrace lists over paragraphs, with occasional grammar errors. Please let ideas compensate." ❤️

So good- looking forward to this Substack!

I love the shape of the Elleme bags but wish the designers would remember those of us toting a MacBook and make one that fits a laptop. They are so close to being good for work but about an inch too small.

hi! thank you so much!

Agree- not the ideal work bag! I like this bag (and the Metier bag featured) for non laptop days (i like a small top handle tote in and out of the car), weekends, and casual dinner.

Laptop bags specifically are a great idea for a post!

That would be so helpful, thanks!

Yes laptop friendly bags which are not totes please!

Looove these ideas, Ali. Is there a version of the High Sport pant that could work for a petite frame? I'm willing to invest, but I'm just not sure about the length for me.

I'm 5'6 (with short legs proportionally) and these hit at a place I think they would still work for someone 5'4/5. I believe you can also hem them!

Very detailed question: what socks would you wear with the high sport pants? Knee highs?

you could definitely do knee highs. I wear just ankle socks with mine!

The brown suede Gucci shoes, I just got them and sizing wise they feel like they fit perfectly but the tiniest bit snug. Wanted to know if yours fit the same -- let me know and love your newsletter!

YES!! that's so random. I was really debating them feeling a bit big or small and I went with small (told the sales guy I need to take home the shoe horn as well). they have stretched a bit and now perfect!

I actually returned them and miraculously found them a half size larger. Fingers crossed that these work better otherwise I’m out of luck!

Hi Ali!

Love this post! In the last grouping, who are the brown suede loafers by? Love the grey flannel shirt and black High Sports pants paired with them.

Looking forward to what's ahead!

Spanx also makes a pant very similar to the High Sports - they are the Perfect Pant Kick Flares and they are amazing! They don't bag out, hold everything in place, and come in tall & petites!!
