Black has always been the base color of my wardrobe. I wear it year-round and love to find new ways to style it each season. If black isn’t your go-to, use these ideas with any neutral (navy, cream, grey, etc.) for same effect.  Here are my 6 fresh takes on how to wear black this summer.Â
Oversized Silhouettes
When it's hot out the last thing you want is something clinging. An easy cotton, oversized shirt (I have this one from A. Emery in white and love it. Also have this Pheobe Philo one-it's perfect). Pair with a loose trouser with a slightly wide, straighter leg- going too wide might make it a tad too oversized. And continuing with oversized- a ginormous tote. I really can’t have too many huge bags- I love them and use them for everyday work, life, and travel. Metier also makes this tote in two smaller sizes- and other suedes, leather, canvas textures. I love the subtle details of the handle finishes.Â
Play with Proportion
I love taking a trend or a more fashion piece and making it super wearable. I love the shape of this bubble hem skirt. Along with all wearing as one neutral pair it with a simple sweater vest (the Toteme one below is a little shorter to make it easier to wear if you aren’t 5’10) and strappy sandals make it feel a bit more approachable. Love the touch of silver which ties into the sculptural feel of the overall look.

Mix Texture
One of my go-to styling tricks with wearing so many simple pieces is texture. I love mixing knits with cotton, suede accessories, and a little bit of hardware whether it's with jewelry or a belt. Summer this can be more challenging, I love the weight of this polo and linen blend trouser. This small Metier market bag in lighter brown you’ve seen me wear probably too much- I love it and is a real outfit maker.Â

Subtle Styling Details
All in the small things with this outfit. Roll your shirt sleeves, un button neckline to make it all feel relaxed and breezy. Pair with a lightweight straight skirt and structured bag to keep it polished. Same sandals as above- these are good ones!

The Short Set (Round 3)
But this time I created my own set with a longer bermuda short. Love this cooler take. Wear a swim top under the shirt, a little bit unexpected and much less hot. Also love the unexpected pairing of the satin ballet flat- I have a feeling this Fall these shoes will be my go to for evening.

Relaxed Waist Tie
This idea really combines a few from above but the main point being this tie waist that feels relaxed and lightweight on (instead of something heavy around your waist). Wear it with the Loulou studio knit tank (honestly so good for price) and a long chain link necklace.

My 9 Months Pregnant Take

With the upcoming arrival of our baby I will be taking the next few weeks off. See you in September with some new series and fresh ideas on building your uniform!
