Guest Series 001: Fall Uniform with Becky Malinsky
Building your uniform with inspiration from friends of Uniform.
This is the first post in a series of guest-featured newsletters where friends of Uniform share their philosophy on fashion, personal style, and their go-to pieces. I hope it allows you to find inspiration in different types of style, all grounded in knowledge of fashion and thoughtfulness for getting dressed.
I am so excited to feature Becky Malinsky and her Fall uniform (which I absolutely love because these are all pieces you likely have, or similar, in your closet). Becky, who you probably know from her weekly style newsletter, 5 Things You Should Buy, is an editor and stylist with 20+ years industry experience. She has impeccable taste and deep knowledge of fashion, she is an OG of newsletters, and always knows what you need in your wardrobe before you do. I met Becky in 2008 when we both started working as assistants at Lucky Magazine (RIP). Our first lunch together at Conde Nast’s 4 Times Square we jumped in the same section of the revolving door and we’ve been best friends ever since. I run pretty much every fashion purchase by her since that day as well.
Becky’s Fall Uniform
Fall is a time in New York when I'm constantly trying to figure out what temperature it *actually* feels like outside. Morning and afternoon temperatures often fluctuate 20 degrees. So I'm looking forward to bringing out lighter coats and I'm planning to wear them with even lighter layers to be ready to strip down during the midday sunshine.

I loved the FW24 Miu Miu show and keep coming back to it to style my own wardrobe as it felt like an amalgamation of things I already own (kinda sorta.) These pieces are all super easy for me to throw on, but the balance of the white and the pajama blue and the brown all feel super fresh to me right now. I have also been gravitating toward black accessories lately. I had been on a brown kick for a few years now and am enjoying the polished look black has been adding to my casual, everyday outfits.
Style Advice from Becky
My getting dressed philosophy is to wear what makes you feel confident enough to stop thinking about what you're wearing, if that makes sense. I love fashion and always come back to what feels fresh and good. But I also need what I'm wearing to fall away enough for me to function: as a stylist, as a parent, as a general person on the go in NYC. There's confidence in a great outfit.
I hope you loved Becky’s Fall uniform as much as I did.
More to come on this guest series!
