My closet is one of my favorite places to be. I appreciate that everything is an authentic extension of myself and a thoughtful or emotional decision. I find the most inspiration for getting dressed in my closet and believe it to be more important than we give it credit for!

For today’s post, I’m sharing with you a process I’ve spent years dialing in to clean out, organize (lavender and cedar recommendations included), and spot the holes in your wardrobe (somehow for me it was a black turtleneck and PJ’s) , along with the refreshing process of letting something go that you have loved and worn often.

Before we dive right in, I want to preface by saying that a uniform is about personal taste and style- not specific rules or codes. Therefore going thru your closet you shouldn’t feel like you have to get rid of something because it doesn’t follow a certain code. Your uniform and what you keep is about you, what is meaningful or special to you, and sometimes it’s the surprising things that make it who you are, not any arbitrary rule or runway trend.

So let’s get into it. I go thru my closet at the beginning and end of each season and if I can swing it, I'll go thru my core (the everyday go-to pieces) wardrobe every 30 days as well. Because I am going thru so often, I rarely am stuck with it being overwhelming (I realize this is quite disciplined may not be for everyone- more on that below!). But this really helps me keep my very formulaic way of dressing updated and fresh.

I love walking thru stores, showrooms, and people’s closets to see how items are organized, how racks interact with furniture and art, and how shelves and drawers are arranged with art and objects. I have a bit of work on my own closet in this area (and actually just need a bigger closet- don’t we all!) but this kind of inspiration is helpful to pick up a tip or two. I love the above inspiration including images from The Apartment by the Line (RIP), The Row store in London and Toteme’s 2022 Aspen pop up.
