What I love about a good bag is how it can take a dialed-in uniform and nudge it in a slightly different direction. For me, I get a little more playful with my bags since my clothes are more understated and minimal. I love thinking about the color, texture, shape, and practicality that best suits me, my outfit, and lifestyle. I always have around five-ish bags in heavy rotation all year long that fulfill different needs. I don’t buy them often, but I’ve narrowed in on a few spring bags (totes, evening ideas, off duty woven styles, bags for your laptop, etc) that I think have the power to last and fill a gap in a wardrobe.
I am into softer textures, organic shapes, crisp whites/khakis (and some color for a pop against neutral clothing), and I am always spilling out at the edges of my bags. I don’t always cover trends, but this season, the bag trends feel classic and interesting enough to invest in.
The East-West
I like to have one, trend-driven fashion bag in my rotation. This season this ‘East West’ shape has hit that note for me. The Alaia bag has been everywhere. I think the shape is very ladylike, but unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. And I think it’s a trend that will actually hold some time.
Along the same lines, I am into all below variations on the trend. The Khaite style is pretty perfect, and the Miu Miu, Jil Sander, and Loewe bags are all a smaller take on the style with really interesting shapes. This Toteme one just touches on the trend but is so classic, and The Row gives a chic, understated way to do an uptown lady bag with just a hint of east west.
