A Blue & White Striped Button Down Shirt
Building your uniform with the classic menswear staple.

I have been living in striped button downs lately. It’s probably the time of year, they are the perfect thing for transitional weather, and I always love the menswear staple. Recently I have come across a few with details that feel fresh, and somehow, they are feeling new again.
You probably have one in your closet, so here are a few new styling ideas. And if you don’t have, I don’t think you’ll regret picking one up!
Buttoned Up to the Top
The clean even stripes remind me of a preppy Ralph Lauren shirt, buttoning it all the way up makes it feel a bit masculine and cooler. Styling it with a streamlined skirt gives it feminine juxtaposition. Add a few 90’s minimal pieces: the perfect oval sunglasses, slim sandals, and the chicest little tote (that would probably get used every day if I owned it). This look would also be great with black straight skirt-which you may already have. For an easy tuck (I do this often and every time I’m tucking) leave the bottom 2 buttons undone, sits nicely around your hips.
Sleeves Cuffed
I love a white contrast collar on a button down, it feels a little more menswear and a little bit tux. To make it feel relaxed cuff the sleeves, I love how it shows the white cuff with this shirt. Add a touch of femininity with a slim belt, delicate watch, and a clutch like shoulder bag. Ground it all with black wide leg trousers and a comfortable black slide.
Loosely Unbuttoned
Maybe you button one or two buttons or leave it open. Throw it over a swimsuit and let the warm summer tones and a little bit of texture make the outfit. Nothing excites me more than when Loewe’s Paula Ibiza launches each Spring, this bag folds down flat for all your travel needs!
All the Ways Above but as a Set
For the beach, for lounging, for a quick errand, WFH… the set is such a good go-to. I love the details on this Doen set, the small pleats in the back, airy fabric and dainty striping. I also have the Rohe set (below and more to come on that one soon) the shirt shape is cute and boxy and the shorts are a bit longer which is great for out and about. Quality is really good- the cotton holds its shape. For any of the pants in real life (not lounge or beach) I recommend pairing with a solid item (like a knit or tee) or a contrast color stripe button down would be unexpected! Just to make it look a tad less pajama-ish.
And finally, because there are so many great button downs out there, I of course forgot a couple that I couldn’t leave out. Miu Miu makes the best cotton button downs (love the darker blue and boxy shape). Dries Van Noten’s slightly shorter sleeve silhouette, and no better time to snag one of his final seasons!
