Emerging Concepts: Fall Winter 24 Trends, Updates on Essentials, and Other Random Thoughts
Building your uniform with the latest inspiration.
Around fashion week I always start to think about new iterations and small updates for my uniform. I notice trends or styling ideas that can be interpreted for my current wardrobe, pieces or concepts that I screen grab for the following season, and some thoughts that are fleeting and will never make their way into my closet. We still have one more week left of shows in Paris, so these are just some random initial thoughts, as well as a few things that are on my mind that have nothing to do with fashion week at all.
Color: Oxblood and Green (Chartreuse to Olive)
What I like about this trend: Both colors feel like fall without being autumnal. I like the oxblood as we move away from the red trend. They also can live like neutrals, pair them with other neutrals or get more playful by pairing with other colors.
How I am going to wear it: Separately with grey (likely an all grey look with a oxblood bag and shoe) or if I really want to go for it, then full monochrome.
Circling Back to The Essentials Guide
A couple weeks ago I did a deep dive into wardrobe essentials. Tee shirts, sneakers, trench coats, tote bags, you get the idea. Since this post I have thought more about my essentials, and a few updates the items I turn to on the daily. Sold Out came out with a perfect button down shirt. Lie Studio makes great quality jewelry for the price. This Cos short trench (above) arrived, and I have been throwing it over everything, I love the ease of it and quality is really good. Better uses up-cycled fabric from men's tailoring to make their collection. And I wear my faux fur Toteme flats so much that I need a non winter option.
Oh, and to follow up on sweats. I landed on this ReDone sweatshirt (unfortunately worth the price) and these Les Tiens sweatpants. And the Skims were so soft I had to keep them.
Something Sculptural and Pretty
These chic YSL sandals (with a perfect pointed shape, gorgeous satin straps, and a gold detail that will peak out just under the toe) reminded me to think daintier. I like to insert a few prettier things into my uniform to soften my overall look. I love Valentino’s take on the bow trend- the bunny ear part of the bow is in the front of the lobe and the ties come down the back. A feminine hair pin is exactly what I didn’t know what I needed in my usual wet hair bun. The gold chain and shape on this Toteme bag make it chic vintage lady.
Blazer Silhouettes
What I like about this trend: I always love a fresh take on a classic silhouette. I like the longer hem length, the simple but elegant details, and all the styling options they offer.
How am I going to wear it: Jacket buttoned all the way up, with a skinny belt and paired with a straight leg trouser. I tried it for now, below, with what I already own!
Also to note- new designer Rohe keeps popping up on my radar, nice quality, very directional silhouettes, and great prices too. I am sure more pieces to come from them.
Craft
I am still making my way through the 4 hour Acquired podcast on Hermes. It will give you every reason to exclusively shop at Hermes (not that we needed another one). They produce over 75% of their products in France and the family still apprentices in the craft (and the business). I also listened to Gabriela Hearst on Vogue’s podcast talking with Nicole Phelps on sustainability. Both have me thinking even more about quality, fabric, and how to always buy the right things, not more things. It also has made me want to shop in person more to feel the fabrics, be in the brand space, and see the details up close.
Next in Knits
What I like about this trend: The chunky weights, unexpected details (bow!), and all those great collar details.
How am I going to wear it: Layer them. I like the idea of mimicking the Gucci idea by layering two chunky marled knits together. I love two grey knits together.
Throw in the comments your favorite fashion week (or non fashion week) moments!
See you next week!
